During the Civil War, it sold more than one million copies, and was one of the most popular tunes of its era. It was popular enough to be sung by both Union and Confederate troops. A Folk Tune

A Folk Tune is an original work based on the folk-inspired music of the past, particularly the piano music of Beethoven, and Tchaikovsky, and Bartók. This piece has been carefully scored for the first beginning band after the first year of play. Care has been taken to ensure that all players have interesting parts, especially the low brass section having the opportunity at measure 33 to play the melody.
